Throughout my life I've always been fascinated with feminist literature and the history of the women's movement. I encourage everyone to read feminist literature regularly. I remember the feeling of utter vindication when I first picked up Betty Freidan's The Feminine Mystique in high school; it put words to so many thoughts and experiences, helping me to see them not as individual neuroses, but as symptoms of living in a patriarchal society. Essentially, it made me feel less crazy! I saw a great quote somewhere along the lines of "when men write about themselves, their ideas and experiences it's considered 'philosophy' and universal to the human condition; when women do the same, it's considered in the genre of 'feminism.' Essentially pointing out that men's ideas and experiences are granted a sort of universality, even though there are more women than men on this planet... interesting. Iiiiiinterestiiiiiiiing.
